WELCOME
The City of Berkeley is conducting the Hopkins Corridor Traffic and Placemaking Study to create a cohesive, safe, and effective multi-modal street that is representative of the rich and diverse culture and features of the Northbrae neighborhood.
The project will result in a preferred conceptual design for Hopkins Street, from Sutter Street to Gilman Street, that will focus on improvements that increase safety for pedestrians and bicyclists, support local businesses and community institutions, enhance the public realm, and provide areas for community gathering.
The conceptual design options include two near-term scenarios, which would be implemented after a summer 2023 repaving effort. A long-term scenario is also being considered, which may be implemented in future years subject to funding.
HOW TO USE THIS MAPPING TOOL
The three design scenarios can be reviewed using the sidebar tabs on the left-hand side of the screen. We recommend zooming into specific locations along the corridor and hold-clicking and dragging to different areas.
While zoomed in, you can toggle between the three scenarios on the left-hand sidebar tabs to view the differences.
Refer to the legend in the bottom right corner to understand the various proposed improvements. Click on the legend icons in the map or the text in the legend for a brief description of each type of improvement.
Drag and drop the lightbulb icon at the top banner to place comments on specific areas of interest.
Please also open the "Placemaking Preferences" left sidebar tab to submit feedback on your preferences for placemaking elements (e.g., benches, landscaping, bike racks, public art) along the Hopkins corridor.
If you have any general feedback that is not specific to a location, you may submit your comments in the "Submit General Comments" left sidebar tab.
This mapping tool will be open for comment until December 1, 2021. The project team will start reviewing comments in early November so please submit any comments as soon as possible. Thank you for your feedback!
Note: After submitting your comment(s) on the map, the comment will be submitted to the project team and not remain visible on the map. Check "Remember Me" to autofill your information for multiple comments.
